David started his career with Burley Property Consultants in 1995 and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1998.
From 2000, David worked with Chesterton and then King Sturge, two of the UK's leading commercial property consultancies specialising in retail and leisure and acting for the likes of Ann Summers, Orange, Holland & Barrett and Centrica.
David returned to Burley Browne in 2005 and now as co-owner and Senior Director provides specialist advice to both landlords, investors and developers that are involved in the retail, restaurant and investment markets both locally and across the UK as well as independent, regional and national operators . Notable clients have included handmade burger co where David was instrumental in helping to grow their restaurant portfolio from one restaurant to over 30 over a 10 year period.
David acts for a wide variety of landlord developer and investment clients to include LCP, Peer Group and BMet.
David remains actively involved in acquiring commercial premises for investors and occupiers across the UK.
David is also a board member of Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID (Business Improvement District) and BID representative on the Town Centre Regeneration Partnership helping to reshape the town centre through the Masterplan.
James Merrick BSc (Hons) DipArb MRICS MCIArb
Senior Director - Lease Advisory & Professional Services
James started his career in 1997 at Frank Nason & Co in the Black Country, operating in general practice and moved to Johnson Fellows to specialise in retail property in 1999.
Having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in early 2000, James worked in the landlord and tenant team advising on rent reviews, lease renewals, re-gears and valuations on all forms of retail property.
In 2017 James moved to Burley Browne as Director and continues to act on landlord and tenant matters, in addition to developing and driving the business forward with the team.
James has represented and advised national multiple retailers, institutional landlords, developers and investment funds as well as local occupiers and private landlords.
James has substantial experience representing parties as an Expert Witness in Arbitration and Independent Expert proceedings as well as at Court and PACT, and is an RICS accredited Expert Witness specialising in retail property.
James is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and also sits on the RICS Presidents panel of Arbitrators, receiving both RICS and private appointments to act as an Arbitrator in respect of rental disputes.
James has been an RICS APC assessor for over ten years and is a former member of the RICS West Midlands Regional Board.
Steven joined Burley Browne as a Graduate Surveyor having completed his degree in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Birmingham and subsequently completed a Masters degree in Real Estate at the University College of Estate Management as part of his qualifications to becoming a Chartered Surveyor.
Steven successfully qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in May 2018.
Steven deals with all aspects of the business including commercial agency, sales, lettings, as well as rent reviews and lease renewals..
Faryal Sheikh BSc (Hons) MRICS
Associate Director - Commercial Property Management
Faryal joined Burley Browne in September 2020 as a Senior Surveyor in Property Management.
Faryal started her commercial career at CBRE in 2015 and worked in both the Estate Management and Asset Services teams. She successfully qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in November 2017, whilst still at CBRE.
She has also worked at Bruton Knowles in Commercial Management, acting on behalf of both landlords and tenants and was responsible for managing a large portfolio comprising of a mixture of assets including retail, offices, industrial and mixed-use and various client types.
Shortly after obtaining her degree in Property and Construction in 2011, Faryal also worked in residential sales agency for a few years before transitioning into the commercial sector.
Peter joined the profession in the early 1970’s working for various Birmingham and West Midland firms of surveyors before commencing practice on his own account in August 1988.
In January 1999 Peter merged the practice of Peter C Browne Chartered Surveyors with Andrew Burley of Burley Property Consultants. Peter deals predominantly with Landlord & Tenant Negotiations, Valuations and Office / Industrial acquisitions and disposals on a local, regional and national level for a varied range of clients from private individuals to national and international corporate companies .
In 2009, Peter qualified as a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Accredited Mediator.
Hollie joined Burley Browne in May 2022 having previously worked for Quantity Surveyors Henry Riley LLP for the last three years in Birmingham City Centre.
Hollie's role includes assisting the Directors and the whole team on their day to day tasks; managing the office and social media and CSR coordinator for both Burley Browne and Burley Browne Residential.
